Southridge Park's sports court will be seeing some changes this summer thanks to a grant from the Canada Community-Building Fund.
The biggest change is to the park's outdoor rink.
The city states that the boards surrounding the rink have reached the end of their service life and will be removed in July. They will be replaced by new fencing, while the rink itself will be replaced by a new multi-sport surface with a tennis court, four pickleball courts and a basketball court.
In winter the city plans to make the new surface available for ice sports.
The total cost is estimated at $220,500
The sports court has been a feature of the College Heights community for over 20 years, since the park was created by several donors for use as an outdoor ice rink in winter and a hard-surface rink in the summer.
New sports equipment will be installed in late July and the park is expected to open to the public in the fall.
A new dog park opened nearby last year, adjacent to the rink at a cost of $75,000.
