A man who fled an attempted traffic stop in Quesnel has been arrested and charged after allegedly crashing into two RCMP vehicles during a police pursuit.
At approximately 7:36 p.m. on May 20, Quesnel RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 27-year-old Kyle Fredrick Ford. Officers did not pursue the vehicle at the time due to public safety concerns.
A few hours later, police located the vehicle on Sundown Road in Quesnel and deployed a spike belt in an attempt to stop it and prevent further risk to the public.
The driver tried to flee again, evading the spike belt and colliding with two police vehicles in the process.
Both police vehicles sustained significant damage, and one RCMP officer suffered minor injuries in the collision.
After the crash, the suspect vehicle was disabled. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly arrested. A 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody.
Ford was remanded and is facing several charges, including impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and flight from police.
The passenger has been released without charges.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be laid, as the vehicle Ford was driving is believed to have been stolen.
