A Prophet River elder is $100,000 richer after scratching a Luxury Crossword ticket recently and winning the game's top prize.
Donna Tsakoza was at work back in February when she decided to scratch the winning ticket.
“I looked it over three times because I was hoping it wasn't a mistake,” said Tsakoza in a B.C. Lottery Corporation press release. “At first, I thought I matched 10 words and I won $5000.”
When she realized it was, in fact, 11 words, and she had won the grand prize, she couldn't wait to tell her daughter.
The timing couldn't have come at a better time, Tsakoza had planned, even before her windfall, to retire in March.
"I'm going to pay some bills," she said to the Alaska Highway News May 27. "No big plans yet," Tsakoza added.
The Prophet River knowledge keeper admitting she's enjoying her retirement, spending time with her 11-year-old grandson in Fort Nelson, where she bought the winning ticket.
