After striking out, grounding out and flying out in his first three at-bats, Prince George's Jared Young recorded his first-ever hit in Major League Baseball on Friday afternoon, pulling a ball into right field for a double in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Young played first base for the Chicago Cubs, batted sixth in the lineup and wore the number 74 during an afternoon game at historic Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 2-1 to open a three-game weekend series.
Family members took the overnight flight from Vancouver to Chicago to be at the game today. The broadcast showed Young's mom Dana, his dad Randy and other family and friends celebrating in the stands after the hit.
Former Toronto Blue Jays star pitcher Marcus Stroman had a no-hitter going after five-and-two-thirds innings, in part thanks to a couple of nice scoops by Young at first base to record the out. The no-hitter was broken up by a home run.
