B.C.'s civilian-based police watchdog has been notified, RCMP say, after a man was shot to death early Tuesday morning during a confrontation in Quesnel.
RCMP said officers in the community 116 kilometres south of Prince George were checking a vehicle parked in a 400-block Carson Ave. parking lot at about 3:30 a.m. and found a man sleeping inside.
"When officers approached the man reportedly reached for a firearm, and shots were fired. The man was transported to local hospital where he was declared deceased," B.C. RCMP said in a statement.
It said the Independent Investigations Office, which investigates police-related injuries and deaths for evidence of criminal wrongdoing, has been notified.
The deceased's name was not provided.
