A Kelowna bus driver failed a roadside breath test on Sunday, Feb. 9, after authorities were alerted by a 911 call from a passenger on the bus.

"A phone call from an alert passenger resulted in an impaired bus driver being caught by Kelowna RCMP," Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy says.

Around 1:35 p.m. one of the passengers called RCMP to report the bus was being driven erratically and they had concerns about the driver.

Officers located the bus and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Burtch Road in central Kelowna.

Police conducted a roadside sobriety test and determined the driver was showing significant signs of impairment; the driver failed a roadside breath test.

"Fortunately, no one was injured during this incident," says Noseworthy. “This passenger is commended for noticing an issue and reporting it immediately.”

The driver, a 52-year-old man, was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition.
