Former world champion figure skater Elvis Stojko paid a visit to the Dawson Creek SPCA over the weekend.
The two-time Olympic silver medalist performed on Friday and Saturday in Dawson Creek. His wife and fellow figure skater Gladys Orozco is the founder of a pet-centred charity called The Kibble Project, which collects food, supplies, treats, and toys for animals, and distributes them to various animal rescues across the country.
Stojko and Orozco visited the South Peace BC SPCA in Dawson Creek with large bags filled with brand new dog and cat toys, along with other animal welfare products and animal treats.
“The staff was very excited to have Elvis and Gladys visit the Centre. It's so important for the animals to have access to toys and high-quality treats,” said Chelsea Blackwell, branch manager of the South Peace SPCA. “These items are used to provide enrichment to the animals, and high-quality treats help the staff and volunteers to build trust with animals who are nervous about human interaction.”
Stojko and Orozco were at the shelter for a couple of hours touring the location and visiting with the animals.
“To say thank you for their visit, we gave both Elvis and Gladys a BC SPCA t-shirt, which they proudly put on. We were very honoured that the chose to take time out of their busy schedule to visit the Dawson Creek animal shelter.”
