Telco summit

The 2019 Canadian Telecom Summit kicks off on Monday in Mississauga, Ont. Speakers include Janet Yale, chairwoman of the federal Broadcasting and Telecommunications Legislative Review Panel, Huawei Technologies executive Wen Tong and CRTC chairman Ian Scott.

Transcon earnings

Transcontinental Inc. will hold a conference call to discuss its second-quarter financial results on Thursday. The Montreal-based publisher recently defended its handling of the sale of its East Coast media assets to SaltWire Network, and says it's considering a counter-suit against Atlantic Canada's largest media company.

Saputo update

Saputo Inc. releases financial results for its 2019 financial year on Thursday. The Montreal-based dairy company announced in April a deal to buy the specialty cheese business of Lion - Dairy & Drinks in Australia — which includes two manufacturing facilities in Tasmania and employs approximately 400 people — for roughly $265 million.

Trade figures

Statistics Canada reports international merchandise trade results for April on Thursday. The country's trade deficit shrank in March to $3.4 billion as exports, led by the energy sector, climbed higher.

May jobs numbers

Statistics Canada will release its labour force survey for May on Friday. The agency's survey for April revealed a net increase of 106,500 jobs, the bulk of which were full time, for the biggest one-month employment gain since the government started collecting comparable data in 1976.
