Even before Patricia McWilliams won $1 million from the July 4, 2020 Lotto 6/49$1 million Guaranteed Prize draw, she would often hum the Barenaked Ladies song, If I Had A Million Dollars. Now that she actually has $1 million, she says it’s “unbelievable.”

The Vancouver resident checked her Lotto 6/49 ticket the day after the draw at the same store where she purchased it: McGill Grocery in East Vancouver. McWilliams said she bought the ticket as part of a Double Dip package, her favourite way to play.

“I was in shock — I couldn’t believe all the zeros,” she said. “The guy at the store said, ‘just take it easy, remain calm.’”

McWilliams has already gifted some of her winnings to her family and purchased a new vehicle, giving her previous car to her sister. While she ponders what else she might do with her prize, she says just like the song, there are so many things you can do with $1 million.

“I’m still on cloud nine — it’s surreal,” she said.

So far in 2020, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $74 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
