Three spots in northern B.C. are being eyed for an expansion of the province's network of charging stations for electronic vehicles.
They include the Mount Terry Fox rest area, nine kilometres east of Tête Jaune Cache on Highway 16, as well as the Hanceville Lookout rest area, near Hanceville, about 85 kilometres west of Williams Lake on Highway 20, and Motz Road, just east of Terrace near the Thornhill Roundabout off Highway 37.
The Una rest area, about 30 kilometres northeast of Vernon on Highway 97, was also listed in a press release issued Tuesday by the provincial government.
Westcana Electric Inc. will build the stations. The project is expected to be completed by late December and be ready for public use in 2022.
Each site will host two fast chargers and one Level 2 charger (total of 12 charging stations).
The additions will raise the number of charging stations installed by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to 26 with eight of them in the northern region.
By 2040, all light-duty vehicles sold in the province will be required to be electric or use other zero-emission technology.
