Doors locked at some B.C. schools Thursday after report of armed male

Two B.C. schools went under hold-and-secure yesterday (Jan. 9) concerning for certain suspicious activity.

Nanaimo’s John Barsby High School and Georgia Avenue Elementary went into a precautionary hold-and-secure procedure for about 40 minutes yesterday (Jan. 9) after a report of a male seen in the area with a number of weapons.

The male and two other males were located and taken into custody about 2:40 p.m., and had no weapons with them.

They were released, but police are continuing their investigation.

In a hold-and-secure, all entry doors are locked and school activities go on as normal.
