B.C. police say a dispute over cigarettes led to a 29-year-old man being stabbed early this morning (Aug. 29) at a Shell gas station in Saanich.
Police said the man and his 33-year-old girlfriend had just bought cigarettes from the station about 1 a.m. when a man they didn’t know approached and asked if he could have one.
When they refused, an argument developed and the suspect punched the woman in the face.
Her boyfriend stepped in and was stabbed.
The injured man and woman were located by police nearby at the Red Lion Inn and the man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The woman was not hospitalized.
The suspect was found in the gas station parking lot and was due for a Thursday court appearance.
Police will be recommending charges of aggravated assault, assault and robbery.
