Homegrown baker and Mile Zero local Krista Nguyen-Forshner has won Wall of Bakers, following her episode on Food Network Canada this past week.
Nguyen-Forshner says winning the competition has been surreal, but is grateful for the support and kind words from the Dawson Creek community, and brought that small town spirit with her on the show.
“I don’t know if it’s the small town or this community in general, but my family’s had business here for 30 plus years, this community is just next level,” she said. “And I guess everybody says about that, where they come from, but everyone’s supported my family in literally everything that they’ve done.”
$10,000 richer, Nguyen-Forshner says she’s not sure what’s next for her culinary ambitions, but is very happy to keep living a quiet life with her family in the South Peace.
“In terms of dreams and stuff like that, that one right there was one the farthest reaching goals that I had on my list, so I either have to think of a new one or start pursuing those other things I’ve been thinking about that I never thought were really possible,” she said.
She added that the experience was a fruitful one, from start to finish, and enjoyed meeting her fellow competitors and the show’s judges.
“They were so great, we had a really hard time leaving each other. Also the chefs and the bakers, meeting them – they were people I had watched on TV, I even have their cookbooks,” said Nguyen-Forshner, who was told her baking is commercial quality and should be on store shelves.
