While on-duty on Mamquam Road, Const. Scarecrow — the metal posterboard officer — was stolen from his post on the morning of July 30. He had been working in Squamish for less than a month.
Squamish RCMP Sgt. Sascha Banks confirmed they were an officer short. The person who took the two-dimensional officer could face charges of theft, mischief or possession of stolen property, she told The Chief in an email.
"First and foremost he is a tool we are using in order to provide awareness of speeding in areas which the community has expressed concern for safety," Banks said.
Passerbys reported seeing a white man, between 40 and 50 years old, walking with Const. Scarecrow on Mamquam Road. The man was wearing a hat and brown clothing. When police went to the area, witnesses reported seeing the man going into a complex on Mamquam Road.
The RCMP ask for Const. Scarecrow to be returned to the detachment in Squamish at 1000 Finch Drive. Anyone with information should call 604-892-6100.
Another Constable Scarecrow is still at his post elsewhere in Squamish.
