UPDATED: Crews battling 6 hectare wildfire 24 kilometres east of downtown Kamloops

B.C. Wildfire Service Crews are currently battling a growing wildfire south of Hook Road and just 24 kilometres east of downtown Kamloops.

“We do have the fire mapped at four hectares but its currently growing,” says Kamloops Fire Information Officer Hannah Swift.

“There are structures nearby but they are not currently threatened at this time,” says Swift. “B.C. Wildfire Service has air tankers and crews currently responding and as it develops the number of crews on site is continually changing.”

The Pritchard Volunteer Fire department is also responding to the incident. Late this afternoon, two helicopters were deployed to fight the blaze.

Swift says the fire is suspected-human caused, but it’s not confirmed as the cause is still currently being investigated.

 

2 p.m.

A wildfire east of Kamloops, near the Hook Road exit, is kicking up plumes of orange smoke.

It appears to be multiple hectares in size and in a wooded cliff area on the south side of the river, east of Dallas near Monte Creek.

There are multiple aircraft at the scene, including a bomber, and spotter.  KamloopsMatters has contacted B.C. Wildfire Service for more information.

There is currently no word on the cause of the fire or how many wildfire personnel are currently battling the blaze.

But crews are currenlty shutting down a section of Dallas Drive west of the Hook Road intersection.

The Pritchard Volunteer Fire Department is also standing at the ready at the Hook and Dallas Road intersection. 

There's also about 10 vehicles parked in the area, as people are stopped observing the blaze.
