Community clean-up efforts at the Beatton River north of Fort St. John have begun.
Many hands from local companies were pitching in Wednesday morning, moving swiftly to tow out bulky waste like abandoned cars, and with several loads of trash and other illegally dumped garbage continuing to be hauled away.
Sanjel Energy Services, ABC Recycling, and United Rentals were just three of the community-minded companies out in the valley this morning, cleaning and clearing the riverbanks to make it a safe and enjoyable spot for residents again.
Derek Radcliffe, field operations manager for Sanjel, said he was glad to make the clean-up the focus of his company's community engagement day, bringing in help all the way from Saskatchewan.
"There's a lot of companies helping, it's great," Radcliffe said. "It's all about having the right tools for the job. We saw an opportunity to help and everybody got on board."
Industrial clean-up will continue into the afternoon, with a second family-oriented work bee scheduled to remove any remaining garbage by hand.
It's expected that the dirt roads at the site will be smoothed and graded by another company once the cleaning is complete.
