Century 21 fires B.C. realtor over 'Alberta cry babies' post

A Kelowna real estate agent has allegedly been fired over controversial remarks he made on Facebook about Albertans.

Screenshots of Ben Houghton's profile include a post stating: "Alberta such cry babies ... don't worry Alberta your greed will soon be back in full swing."

To which Albertan Ryan Bayrack responded: "I will make sure none of our province buy houses in the Okanagan from you."

Following this, Century 21 Assurance Realty Ltd responded with a Facebook post stating that Houghton is no longer registered as a realtor with the firm.

"Yesterday, Ben Houghton, a realtor from our firm, made negative comments about Albertans," the post stated. "We wholeheartedly disagree with the remarks made about our fellow Canadians."

"Alberta has been an economic engine for our country. We sympathize with Albertans about the current economic climate and appreciate their perspective."

"Our brokerage has suspended Mr. Houghton and he is no longer a registered realtor with our firm."

Castanet has reached out to Century 21 for comment.
