Canadian political junkies will be watching Maywood Community School (4567 Imperial St.) closely on Feb. 11.

The Burnaby Interagency Council will be hosting the debate between candidates in the Feb. 25 Burnaby South byelection from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

It is currently the only debate announced for the race.

A poster advertising the event sets the debate theme: “How can we make Burnaby South a community for all residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable?”

So far, five candidates have declared their intention to run: independent Valentine Wu, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, Conservative Jay Shin, Liberal Richard Lee, and Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson of the People’s Party.

Glacier Media has reached out to all five campaigns, asking if their candidate has been invited and plans to attend.

Singh will be there, his spokesperson said.

“I will come if I have been invited and my leave from work would be approved,” Wu wrote in an email.

The other candidates have not responded as of this writing.
