Vernon's Vasek Pospisil has been named the ATP Tour's Comeback Player of the Year.
Pospisil reached two tournament finals during the shortened 2020 season after undergoing back surgery last year.
"Holding the Comeback Player of the Year Award 2020. It really means a lot to me so, I wanted to give a big thank you to my fellow ATP players on the tour who voted for me to win this award," says the 30-year-old via Twitter.
He was sidelined much of last year due to an injury and ranked 150th but climbed to No. 61.
"A really big thanks to my team that really did a great job and to my sponsors, who stuck with me through thick-and-thin even when my rank had plummeted and had surgery."
The former world No. 25. reached the final at the Open Sud de France before the COVID-19 pandemic started and matched the feat in November at the Sofia Open in Bulgaria.
Pospisil also reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open after wins over No. 11 Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain and No. 18 Milos Raonic, a fellow Canuck at the Grand Slam in New York.
Kevin Anderson of South Africa, Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia and Raonic were also nominated for comeback player of the year.
"Very grateful to be here and hoping to have a great year next year, so thanks," adds Pospisil.
