On this Mothers Day weekend, the B.C. SPCA is hoping the maternal celebration can extend beyond people and into the feline world, as they look to raise money for a Kamloops cat.

Sydney arrived at the Kamloops SPCA heavily pregnant with an abscess on her paw.

Once there, she gave birth to two stillborn kittens. Since labour wasn’t progressing and Sydney’s three unborn kittens were in danger of being lost, SPCA staff determined that she would require an emergency C-section to have the rest of her kittens and stop her internal bleeding.

Sydney is now recovering from surgery and her three biological kittens are thriving.

According to the SPCA, Sydney has also cat adopted three orphaned newborn kittens, who she nurses and cares for as if they were her own.

“Sydney is a friendly, sociable, and outgoing cat. When someone approaches her she perks up to say hello,” says Charleen Holloway. manager of the Kamloops and District SPCA in a release.

However, Sydney’s abscess on her left hind paw needed to be lanced to relieve the swelling and express the pus.

Her emergency surgery, antibiotics and associated care should cost $2,672, so the SPCA has launched a fundraiser for this mother cat HERE

(They will also provide personal updates for Sydney and her kitties to anyone who donates to her campaign.)

In about eight weeks, Sydney will be ready for adoption and her kittens will also need to find forever homes.
