A driver passed out in entirely the wrong place Friday morning.

Victoria police Const. Matt Rutherford and his partner were leaving police headquarters on Caledonia Avenue when they noticed a vehicle illegally parked on a yellow line.

They approached and saw that the driver and his passenger were both in a deep sleep.

When the driver was awakened, he began to try to conceal drugs and paraphernalia.

He was given a field-sobriety test, and failed, and had no explanation as to why he was parked next to a police station.

Rutherford said the man is from the Lower Mainland and has had several interactions with Island police detachments since March 19.
