A man has died after falling from a cliff in Kalamalka Provincial Park early Saturday morning.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP Const. Kelly Brett said emergency crews were called to the area just before 10 a.m.

Brett said the unidentified man was hiking and sustained fatal injuries as a result of a fall from a cliff where he landed in the water below. The RCMP along with Emergency Health Services attended to a nearby boat launch, where a 72-year-old Vernon man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“This is a tragic incident for all those involved, including the citizens on the water who came to the aid of the man, via boat, however were unable to resuscitate him,” said Brett.

“There are parts of the trail system in the park that can lead to some steep embankments and cliff edges, therefore we want to remind hikers and visitors to the park, to be cautious when hiking in the area.”

The investigation into this incident is ongoing and police will continue to work with the BC Coroners Service.
