Strong winds in Tsawwassen this morning have forced B.C. Ferries to cancel sailings on the Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen route.
By about noon, no ferries were able to leave the Tsawwassen terminal, with cancellations set through mid-afternoon.
Winds of 60-80 kilometres per hour have been blowing down Strait of Georgia and through the Tsawwassen area. A wind warning was in effect for Metro Vancouver.
“We, as a result, are not able to sail safely in and out of Tsawwassen,” said B.C. Ferries spokeswoman Astrid Braunshmidt. The Duke Point-Tsawwassen and Southern Gulf Islands-Tsawwassen routes have also been affected.
The winds are expected to weaken in the afternoon.
Wind also led to the 8 a.m. sailing of the Queen of New Westminster from Swartz Bay having to turn around and go back to the terminal.
