RCMP utilized eyes in the air and on the ground to apprehend two men in a stolen van, towing a stolen boat.
Events unfolded shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, when police noticed a boat, stolen from Summerland, being towed across the William R. Bennett Bridge towards West Kelowna.
The van, a full-sized Ford E-350, had been stolen from the Kelowna area.
“The suspect driver of the stolen van refused to stop for police and continued down Westside Road after crossing the bridge over Okanagan Lake,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
“The van was located a short time later, stopped in the middle of Lindley Road, where officers took one male occupant into police custody without incident.”
The second suspect fled on foot, prompting police to call in air support and the canine unit.
“Thanks to an observant area resident, police later located and arrested their second suspect hidden underneath an inflatable boat in the immediate area."
The men, age 33 and 39, are both from Kelowna.
