Around 500 cannabis plants have been seized by police in a raid on a rural Similkameen Valley property.
Cpl. Brian Evans of the Keremeos RCMP says officers executed a warrant on a property on VLA Road in Cawston on Tuesday morning (Sept. 24) under the provincial Cannabis Control Licensing Act.
Evans says the mature plants were being grown outdoors and inside two greenhouses.
“Outdoor marijuana production is dependant on the seasons, and we are at the end of the season, so the plants were mature and near harvest,” he says.
Cpl. Evans says it's not clear at this point whether charges will be laid under the federal Cannabis Act or the provincial legislation.
“There are rules… you need authorization to produce more than four plants of marijuana at any one property, and authorization wasn’t in place,” he says.
