British Columbians who have been issued violation tickets can now turn to a website to help them better understand and resolve disputes faster and without always having to go to court.

Found at tickets.gov.bc.ca, it uses "plain language and simple questions to guide users to information and resources," the provincial government says in a statement.

The site provides details about how to pay and dispute tickets, how to request a fine reduction or time to pay and other ticket-related information.

It covers provincial violation tickets including those related to the Motor Vehicle Act such as speeding or red-light violations and driving without insurance

Liquor, or cannabis offences are also covered and the site directs visitors to information on federal offences like possessing undersize crabs, and municipal bylaw offences like operating without a business licence.

Every year, more than 500,000 violation tickets are issued in B.C., with about 80,000 ticket disputes scheduled for hearing in Provincial Court.
