Princeton mayor Spencer Coyne thinks he knows exactly where Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex Meghan should settle down if they follow up on rumoured plans of a move to B.C.

He says Princeton would be perfect.

"160 years ago Princeton used to be called Vermilion Forks at one time, and our name was changed because the Prince of Wales, who became Edward VII, came to Canada," Coyne said.

"There's a story in town that he was supposed to come to Princeton and that's why the name was changed."

Coyne recalled that history when he read the news that Harry and Meghan were thinking about moving to Canada, and created an online survey asking locals whether they would support the town sending an official letter of invitation to the young royal family.

He says Princeton would be ideal for the couple and their baby son.

"From what I understand from the news, they want a normal life for their family. We can offer them that, we're a nice little community, people would respect their privacy," Coyne explained.

"And we're close to all the amenities, if the Duchess wanted to keep working, stay acting, we are really close to the Okanagan which has tons of films now and Vancouver is not too far away. All kinds of opportunities for them here."

The online survey asks just one question: Should we send an official invitation to the couple to live in Princeton? Coyne says he doesn't have a specific end date for the survey, and is merely collecting general feedback.

If that feedback is positive, it will be full speed ahead.

"We would write up an official letter on behalf of the town of Princeton asking them to settle down here!"

Coyne's fingers are crossed.
