The Prince George Spruce Kings have come out in support of the B.C. government's proof of vaccination mandate.

"The Spruce Kings are committed to upholding these regulations in the interest of the health and safety of our players, staff, and fans," the club said in a statement, adding season ticket holders have provided "positive feedback" about the measure, which requires people to show proof of vaccination before they can enter a building hosting an indoor public event.

The measure comes into effect on September 13 and will apply to Rolling Mix Arena where the Spruce Kings play their B.C. Hockey League home games. Fans, as well as players, team staff and volunteers, will all need to show proof of full vaccination.

As well, masks will be mandatory, although they can be removed temporarily for food and drink.

"By requiring all that enter through the doors of the RMCA to be fully vaccinated, it allows the organization to develop protocols and procedures that should not change while the mandate is in place. Further information regarding these protocols will be unveiled prior to the Spruce Kings exhibition game on October 3rd," the team added.

The Western Hockey League Prince George Cougars have also come out in support of the mandate.
