The pedestrian at the centre of a motor vehicle incident in the Hart Thursday morning has died, Prince George RCMP has confirmed.

The collision had forced a closure of Highway 97 North between Northwood Pulpmill and Houghtaling roads for a time.

"We extend our condolences to his family and friends in their time of mourning," RCMP said in a statement issued later in the day. "Thank you to all those who avoided driving on the Hart Highway this morning as emergency crews conducted their investigation."

The victim's name was not released.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with police, Cpl. Jennifer Cooper later said.

It was the second pedestrian-related fatality this week after a man was killed Tuesday near the corner of First Avenue and Quebec Street. The victim in that incident has been identified as Danial William Warner, 63, formerly of Kelowna.
