Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after their float plane crashed while landing on the Fraser River on Wednesday afternoon.

Prince George RCMP confirmed that emergency personnel were called to the scene between the Shelley and Fraser River bridges at about 3 p.m.

A Transportation Safety Board spokesperson said the plane, a Cessna 185, flipped over while landing in the river shortly after takeoff, and that the two occupants were able to get out of the craft on their own and then were rescued.

A followup investigation will likely be limited to data gathering as there appeared to be little likelihood of identifying new safety lessons that will advance safety, the spokesperson said.
