The fourth and final season of Superman & Lois is scheduled for filming in B.C. in two months.

While no specific locations have been announced yet, the TV series has been filmed in Richmond, Surrey and Delta in the past.

CreativeBC announced filming is set to take place between Jan. 11 and April 22.

This announcement came shortly before the strike by the American actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, ended as a tentative contract deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers was reached.

SAG-AFTRA, which represents 160,000 international performers, were on strike, for more than seven months over fair wages and unregulated use of artificial intelligence.

The strike didn’t affect Canadian actors who operate under a separate branch of the union.

The Canadian actors’ contract was set to expire in March 2024, but they agreed to a one-year extension - to March 2025 - with a five-per-cent wage increase, approved by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the Canadian Media Producers Association.

“Our members overwhelmingly accepted that offer in a referendum,” read a statement from UBCP-ACTRA, the Canadian union.

“With this extension, we feel confident that productions will be returning here, and our jurisdiction should be very busy as studios and producers address the backlog of content for their networks and streamers.”

Furthermore, the union explained, while the details of the new American agreement have yet to be shared, they expect it includes “significant gains” they can build on during their next round of negotiations.

If an agreement wasn’t met before filming started, Canadian actors would still be able to work under the separate guilds, UBCP and ACTRA, according to Richmond resident and actor Osric Chau.

“Even if they are SAG members, they’re allowed to work under another guild in their home country as long as they are affiliated with a guild,” said Chau.”

“Productions that are going on currently either have all Canadian UBCP actors or they got a SAG waiver — meaning they’ve agreed to work under the terms that SAG has approved — and so they’re allowed to hire SAG actors.”

Season 4 of the Superman & Lois series will be its last, CW Network announced.
