Dave Jeffers is running for the separatist Maverick Party in the Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies riding – the riding formerly held by the party’s leader Jay Hill.

Jeffers is a resource-sector businessman in northeastern B.C., according to his online biography. He could not be reached for an interview by the Citizen.

‘Like many other Western Canadians, I have seen the futility of voting for the status quo while expecting different results, and like you, I’m concerned for our future generations,” Jeffers said in his bio.  “Our western way of life has had a profound impact on my viewpoints, and I have developed a deep respect for nature and our environment. Whether ranching and raising horses, or simply enjoying the splendour of the outdoors with friends and family, I am keenly aware of the balance between developing resources fairly and preserving this country for future generations.”

The Maverick Party, formerly known as Wexit Canada, was founded in August 2019 and the 2021 federal election will be its first time running candidates.
