Police in Williams Lake have been busy the last few days.

While investigating an incident at the Rudy Johnson Bridge north of the city, local Mounties spotted a vehicle on Highway 97 that matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the Aug. 6 murder of a man in Williams Lake, according to a press release. After a short police chase the vehicle was trapped near the Williams Lake Airport.

Three people in the vehicle were taken into custody. Two have been released pending further investigation into the incident.

The third, Jayson Gilbert, remains in custody. He's been charged with two counts of attempted murder, according to the release. No charges have been laid in the Aug. 6 murder, but police believe the two investigations are linked.

A third piece of the story is the disappearance of Branton Regner. Police say the missing man is also linked to the investigation into the police chase.

"These remain active investigations for the Williams Lake RCMP and North District Major Crime Unit," says Inspector Jeff Pelley in the press release. "It is important that any potential witnesses, or people that may have information about these incidents, contact the police."

Tips can be called into the Williams Lake police at 250-392-6211 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
