The venture capital game in B.C. isn’t playing out so well this year compared with 2017.
The province has tallied 60 venture capital deals representing $363 million through the first three quarters of the year, according to a Nov. 26 report from Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association.
That’s a 33 per cent decline in value compared with the same period in 2017 when B.C. was home to 67 deals representing $544 million in venture capital.
This drop hasn’t been felt so acutely in the rest of Canada, where about $2.4 billion has been raised through 483 deals so far this year compared with $2.6 billion raised across 431 deals during the same period in 2017.
In terms of private equity, B.C. has been home to 27 deals totalling $216 million for the first three quarters of the year.
That’s down 91 per cent from the same period a year ago when the province tallied 38 deals worth $2.4 billion.
