Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says it's temporarily scaling back opening hours at several of what it describes as "low traffic" crossings along the border with the United States.

In all, 27 ports are affected, including three in British Columbia, two in Alberta, eight in Saskatchewan, six in Manitoba and eight in Quebec.

The new measures will take effect at the Cascade, B.C. border crossing, where hours will be reduced to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.

Nelway, B.C. will reduce their hours of operation to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week and Rykerts, B.C. will reduce their hours to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

These measures go into effect tonight (April 15) at 9 p.m. Pacific time and will remain in place until further notice.

CBSA adds the changes which are related to COVID-19 measures will continue until further notice as all non-essential travel between Canada and the U.S. remains banned.

It adds economic supply chains and trade will remain open and will keep ensuring access to goods and services still runs smoothly.
