The Hudson’s Hope RCMP have wrapped up their ‘12 Days of Christmas Giving’ toy drive, an annual event started by the detachment over four years ago.

“With the generous donations and support from the local community, residents and the following businesses and organizations, we received a generous amount of donations, toys, and gifts that will bring Christmas joy for multiple local families, seniors, and couples,” wrote detachment commander Cpl. Erich Schmidt

The idea for the drive was sparked by Schmidt’s daughter wanting to give away some of her toys to kids in the town who might not be able to receive Christmas presents due to hardships.

The drive was expanded to create the Senior Santa event and donations were collected to create Christmas baskets, which are hand delivered by RCMP to the local seniors home.

“Lastly, I would like to give a huge shout out and appreciative thanks to JJ Schmidt, who was the backbone of this year's event. She worked effortlessly in organizing, collecting, and providing community updates as the event unfolded. This event would not have been so successful should it not have been for you,” wrote Schmidt, thanking his wife, in addition to many of the local businesses and organizations who took part.

“Hudson's Hopers should be proud of our sense of community cohesion,” he added.
