A man well known to the police and courts stands accused of committing a stabbing last week in downtown Quesnel.
Leif Birch Henning Myltoft, 44, has been charged with aggravated assault and two counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose following the January 19 incident in the community of about 10,000 people 116 kilometres south of Prince George.
Police have said ambulance personnel were called to the 400 block of Reid Street at about 5:30 p.m. to attend to a man in urgent need of medical attention and that the suspect and the victim are known to each other. The victim's name was not released.
Myltoft has a lengthy criminal record for offences committed in Prince George, Quesnel, the Okanagan and the Lower Mainland, according to court records.
Myltoft was remanded in custody following a bail hearing on Monday.
