The South Peace Health Services Society has requested a letter of support from the Peace River Regional District, with the letter being used to pursue a funding application through Northern Health.

The society has a particular goal in mind for the funds, and would like to put it towards The Bulterys House, a residence created to provide short or longer term affordable accommodation for individuals travelling to Dawson Creek for medical treatment and care.

The request was sent by Chris Norbury, society president and a councillor with the District of Tumbler Ridge.

“We have had the support from Northern Health to fund the operation of the Bulterys' House through a partnership with the Dawson Creek Society For Community Living to operate the facility for the South Peace Health Services Society,” writes Norbury, noting that the current funding agreement will expire March 31, 2024.

Norbury further added that the society would like the PRRD letter of support send to the Deputy Minister of Health, Stephen Brown, and include the following resolution:

“That the Peace River Regional District recognizes the importance of affordable patient accommodation to access healthcare, and that The Ministry of Health continue to fully support the funding of the Bulterys' House operations."

Regional district board directors will address the request at their Dec. 8 meeting.
