Museum Happenings
We had a record number of volunteers in 2023: 125. Some volunteers put in a short amount of time (baking for a fundraiser for example) and others put in over 100 hours each year. Our volunteers helped with a record number of events – 37 to be exact.
I saved the best for last: our volunteers put in 4956.5 recorded volunteer hours in 2023 – almost 2.75 full-time staff positions. Though we try to record all our volunteer hours, we never quite manage to get them all down so that number is likely well over 5,000.

Exhibits
Ancient Tool Technologies: Discovering the Lifeways of the Early Peoples of the North, a new permanent exhibit at the museum.
Discover ancient tool technologies through this new archeology exhibit at the Fort St. John North Peace Museum. Developed by Jennie Glennie, an archeology student and volunteer, this exhibit looks at hide-working tools, projectile points, and the manufacturing of stone tools. Interpretive signs explain the use of over 60 artifacts on display. Use our iPad to discover additional information on each artifact or pick up our hands-on obsidian and learn more about this material.
Collections and Archives
Our newspaper scanners are now both scanning 2006 editions of the Alaska Highway News and uploading 2009 pages from disc. We’re missing several issues particularly 2006 through 2015 so if you find any when you’re doing your spring cleaning, please check with us to see if we have it.
Our archives responded to 148 inquiries in 2023 – our second-best year ever. Most inquiries were for photographs, newspaper articles, or information on family members.
Donations and Fundraisers
Help the North Peace Historical Society make 2024 a success!
Tell a friend or neighbour about the museum or upcoming museum events. Spread the word about our local history books and gift shop. Mention the Fort St. John North Peace Museum at COBS Bakery and they will donate five percent of your purchase to us.
Help us raise some money by bringing your empty bottles, juice boxes, beer cans, or pop cans to the museum and we’ll take them to the recycle depot for you. Please don’t flatten them. When you recycle metal at ABC Recycling, please donate your ticket to the FSJ North Peace Museum.
