A water main leak from the city's water treatment plant has caused the City of Dawson Creek to call for water use reduction.

A city-wide "no unnecessary water use" call is in place - and temporary closure of Dawson Creek potable water locations continues into British Columbia Day Monday, August 1.

"As of 6pm July 31, city crews have identified the water leak and are actively working on a repair," city officials noted on Sunday.

"It is likely repairs will go throughout the night and into Monday, August 1."
