Alberta earthquakes, aftershocks felt throughout Peace region

Fourth and fifth reported quakes this week.

A pair of Alberta earthquake reports - with frequent aftershocks within in a few hours were felt in throughout the AB and BC Peace regions Tuesday evening.

Readers in both throughout the region have let the Dawson Creek Mirror know Tuesday evening they felt the tremors – reported to be 5.2 and 5.8 in magnitude and 175 km east north east of Grande Prairie. They were reported at 4:45pm and 5:55pm. Subsequent aftershocks between 4 and 5 magnitudes were then reported.

Readers from as far away as Fort MacMurray and Red Deer report feeling the shake rattle and roll, as well as residents in Hudson's Hope, Taylor, FSJ and Chetwynd.

"It shook the entire Silverado Pub and Hotel downtown," said a patron of the pub to the Mirror just after 7pm Dawson Creek time about the 5:55pm quake.

"We could feel the entire building shake and sway."

The area has seen five quakes reported last week, including two on November 23 and a third on Nov. 24 – all between 4.1 and 4.5 in magnitude.
