As airlines react to the COVID-19 pandemic, Air Canada is suspending multiple routes inside Canada.
Included in that are trips between Kamloops and Vancouver and Kamloops and Calgary. The temporary suspension starts March 23, according to the Air Canada website, and will last until at least April 30 for flights to Calgary. Flights between the Tournament Capital and Vancouver will be suspended from April 1 to April 30.
"We continue to adapt our schedule and capacity in response to COVID-19 and have postponed launches or extended the temporary suspension of several routes," reads a statement.
The list of flights to be suspended include dozens of connections between Canadian cities. Other B.C. cities and towns affected include Victoria, Kelowna, Penticton, Comox, Smithers, Prince Rupert, Castlegar, Cranbrook and Vancouver.
As for WestJet, the company has not announced changes to its domestic schedule.
Earlier this week, Kamloops Mayor Ken Christian, who sits on the Kamloops Airport board, said he spoke with airport manager Ed Ratuski, who noted a significant decrease in incoming air passengers to Kamloops.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the flight from Kamloops to Vancouver will be suspended on March 23; that is wrong. The route will be suspended on April 1. We apologize for the error.
