A woman accused in fatally stabbing a stranger in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood is pleading not guilty and going to trial, a Vancouver Provincial Court judge heard Sept. 26.

Lindsay Scott, 34, faces charges of second-degree murder and assault in the death of Justin Mohrmann.

The 29-year-old man was walking near Smith and Homer Streets around 8:30 a.m. on July 11th when he was stabbed.

“Investigators have found no evidence to suggest the victim and accused knew each other,” said Vancouver Police Department Sgt. Steve Addison. “We believe they were strangers.”

Scott was arrested shortly after the incident at Main and Hastings. She remains in custody Alouette Correctional Centre for Women in Maple Ridge and appeared in court via video link.

Her lawyer has asked the judge for a pre-trial conference to organize a preliminary hearing in the case. Such hearings are held to assess whether or not enough evidence exists to proceed to a trial.

Her boyfriend, Robert Lee, told reporters outside of the courthouse that Scott is innocent.

“There’s no way this lady could do something like that,” he said after anxiously watching the proceedings. “I’ve lived with her for eight months. She’s a beautiful sweetheart. She’s an angel.”

Scott has yet to have a bail hearing — a proceeding which would fall under B.C. Supreme Court.

The case returns to provincial court on Nov. 1.
