The man charged for allegedly stabbing a man in a Vancouver Tim Hortons in January remains in custody pending a bail hearing, Vancouver Provincial Court heard March 14.
David Richard Morin, 27, is charged with aggravated assault.
The accused, being held in North Fraser Pretrial Centre, has consented to remain in custody.
Defence lawyer Marcel LeHouillier told Judge Donna Senniw he had received a significant amount of case disclosure from the Crown on March 11 and remains in discussions with the prosecution about the case.
The incident happened around 6:20 a.m. on Jan. 22 at the Tim Hortons at the Harbour Centre when a tourist entered the coffee shop.
As the tourist was donning his jacket, another man repeatedly stabbed him.
Police called it a random attack. On Jan. 24, the Vancouver Police Department released security footage of the attack in hopes the public would recognize the man.
Sgt. Steve Addison said a number of people came forward to help police identify a suspect.
The Emergency Response Team arrested Morin near Granville and Helmcken streets on Jan. 25.
Addison called the incident troubling and said he hoped the quick arrest restored the public’s sense of safety.
Morin returns to court on April 4.
