Prince George Spruce Kings defenceman Nick Bochen is being wooed by several U.S. college teams anxious to lock up his services as a defenceman once he’s finished his junior hockey career in the BCHL.

The 17-year-old Burnaby Winter Club alumni from North Vancouver is getting closer to locking up an NCAA scholarship and on Saturday in Langley he gave the Langley Rivermen a demonstration of what he can do with a hockey stick in his hands.

He already had two assists in the bag when he passed the puck to teammate Ben Poisson with four minutes left in the third period. Poisson made that pass count when he put the puck into the net behind Rivermen goalie Braedon Fleming to complete the hat trick.

Poisson’s power-play marker proved the difference in a 4-3 triumph over their Mainland Division rivals.

Bochen helped set up the first two goals Poisson scored to stake the Kings to a 2-1 lead early in the second period and Dyan Anhorn added to the count with an even-strength goal just nine seconds after Poisson potted his second of the season.

The Rivermen stormed back to tie the game in the third period on goals two minutes apart from Alec Capstick and Garrett Daly, setting the stage for Poisson’s winner.

The Spruce Kings finished the game 3-for-10 on the power play and used their special teams time to build up a 35-24 shot advantage.  Langley ended up 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Spruce Kings improved their second-place Mainland Division record to 6-1-0-1, while Langley dropped to 4-4-0-0, fourth in the division. Prince George is one point back of first-place Chilliwack and has a game in hand over the Chiefs.

Anhorn finished with a goal and an assist and Kings defenceman Layton Ahac collected two assists. William Stromp had the other Langley goal.

Logan Neaton improved his record to 5-0 in goal for the Kings, making 21 saves. Fleming took the loss in net for the Rivermen.

The Kings will be in Coquitlam today (3 p.m.) to finish off their three-game, three-day roadtrip against the Express. They’ll be back on home ice at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena Thursday night when they take on the defending champion Wenatchee Wild in a rematch of last year’s Fred Page Cup final.
