Gauthier climbs NHL draft ranking

Prince George Cougars' netminder Taylor Gauthier is ranked 19th in NHL Central Scouting's final rankings for the 2020 draft.

The 19-year-old Calgary product was ranked 27th in the midseason draft rankings.

Gauthier had a career-best season this year with Cats, notching 16 wins, including two shutouts. His goals-against average for the season was 2.93, with a save percentage of .917.

He was named the WHL Eli Wilson Goaltender of the Week for the week ending Jan. 26.

The six-foot-two southpaw led the league in minutes played, spending 2,870 minutes between the pipes, and was tied for most games played at 50.

During the season he faced 1,677 shots, stopping 1,537 of them.

The Cougars drafted him 10th overall in the 2016 WHL Draft, and he's played in 137 regular regular season games during his career with the Cats. He has a career 39 wins, including five shutouts, with a goals-against average of 3.28 and a career save percentage of .903.

The 2020 draft was initially scheduled to take place June 26-27 in Montreal, but the NHL has postponed it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

No other Cougars players made the NHL draft rankings.
