The PG Surg Med Knights celebrate the 18U midget double-A provincial baseball championship they won a year ago at Nechako Field.
The start of the Western Canadian 18U midget double-A baseball championship has been delayed by an Alberta storm.
That means the PG Surg Med Knights are going to have wait a few hours to begin defending the title they won last year.
"We've got a rain problem here," said Knights assistant coach Dylan Lukinchuk.
"It was coming down hard this morning and when we got to the field it was drizzling but it was playable and then it came down again. There was a lot of wind and everything's blown over now.
"They've done a lot of work to the field but everything's been pushed back. The word is each game will be five innings long (instead of seven)."
The Unity Cardinals were playing the host Strathmore (Alta.) Reds and were in the third inning when the skies opened up Friday morning, a game that started at 8:45 a.m. Alberta time. The Knights were originally scheduled to play the Saskatchewan champions from Unity at 2:45 p.m. MT in the only game of the day for Prince George.
The Knights have two games on Saturday. At 9 a.m. MT they play the Altona (Manitoba) Bisons, then take on Strathmore at 2:30 p.m. MT. The Knights wrap up preliminary round play Sunday at 9 a.m. against the Leduc (Alberta) Giants.
The final is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. MT on Sunday. If a tiebreaker is needed that would be played Sunday at 2:45 p.m. MT.
