Rain closes city sports fields and ball diamonds

The heavy rain has forced closure of the city's sports fields and ball diamonds.

The closures will remain in effect until at least tomorrow and will be lifted once crews have determined they have dried out sufficiently, the city said in a notice issued this afternoon.

"The closures are necessary in order to protect the turf from root damage and to prevent player injury," the city said.

Masich Place Stadium remains open.
