Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall has declared this as Team Rubicon Canada Week.

Team Rubicon Canada was established in January 2010 in response to a major earthquake in Haiti, when it mobilized military veterans to join with first responders in the disaster relief mission and that has become the group’s primary mission.

The not-for-profit organization provides opportunities for military veterans to restore aspects of their lives they lose once they leave military service, tapping their skills in disaster relief efforts at home and abroad to restore a sense of purpose. Team Rubicon veterans help vulnerable people during their worst days to build a sense of community. Their volunteer activities nurture a sense of self-worth in veterans, knowing how badly needed their services are to alleviate human suffering and restore human dignity.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Team Rubicon volunteers (Greyshirts) have been making cloth masks to address shortages across the country and have been giving them to frontline health-care workers.

On its Facebook page the group posted: “In every crisis, there are bystanders and there are helpers. For Team Rubicon Canada, action is the only option. The organization's volunteers are finding ways to safely serve their neighbours in the wake of COVID 19.”
