McBride-area road reopened after flood

After being close for a week due to flooding, Mountain View Road near McBride is now open to traffic.
Fraser River high water
Rainy weather means high-water conditions remain on the Fraser River and its feeding tributaries. Flooding on Willox Creek north of McBride resulted in the closure of Mountain View Road, which was reopened to traffic on Sunday.

After being close for a week due to flooding, Mountain View Road near McBride is now open to traffic.

Provincial officials are closely monitoring the flood danger and are allowing residents for essential travel only to use the road daily with a ministry escort between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Those times can vary depending on road safety and creek conditions and motorists should expect delays as long as 30 minutes.

The road is not suitable for vehicles with low clearance, small vehicles or motorcycles.

Heavy rain last week resulted in Willox Creek overflowing its banks, forcing closure of a one-kilometre stretch of the road on July 4. The ministry is on the site with construction equipment, maintenance contractor staff and geotechnical experts and work on the road is ongoing.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is warning people to be aware of debris flowing in the fast-moving creek, which can be volatile and unpredictable. Avoid getting close to the water.
